IOC "surprised" by Games web censorship

Really? How could this possibly be a surprise?

Wow, China and censorship...what a massive surprise! Please excuse my sarcasm here but what did the IOC really expect?

But apparently now the IOC is angry and is probing further into the lack of media freedom as if they have some sort of recourse against China.

I'll say it again...what did the IOC expect considering China's recent dealings in places like Tibet, Darfur, and Taiwan?

Here's another ditty of an article that tells you what kind of organization the IOC really is. Apparently some IOC official cut a "deal" to let the Chinese government block web sites that were not pertinent to the games.

I don't think the IOC is doing much to embody the Olympic spirit.

Spot on, Crosbie. I can't believe some of the things I'm reading about these Olympics, how much iron-tight control the state has and how much they're willing to do to avoid embarassment. They might shut down something like 250 factories just to cut the smog a bit. Anything to maintain an illusion that is weak anyway.
